The night before Hubby's birthday
a huge Thunderstorm came through and knocked
out all the power all along the East Coast.
We had prepared for what we could but
we NEVER dreamed of the HEAT wave!!
So we thought if we headed out of the area we
would be able to find somewhere that had power
but most importantly AIR CONDITIONING!!!
We headed over to Maryland to the White Flint Mall.
(The one they are tearing down)
Only part of the mall had power from
generators and the A/C wasn't able to keep up with keeping the
whole mall cool so we were only there for a little while.
We rode the choo choo
(That is the lost but now replaced panda bear)
We got a yummy
Mrs. Field's Cookie Cake
and headed back to the apartment complex.
There was power back on
but only in HALF the community
and as for our luck our apt. was NOT
a part of the lucky half!!
We still didn't have power
and we didn't know what to do.
We weren't allowed to swim in the pool
even though the leasing office had power
because the phone lines were still down.
(They might need that for an emergency or something...)
(Who doesn't have a cell phone these days.....?)
So we called around because we found out that
some of the other apartment communities/houses in the
area NEVER LOST POWER!!
(Uh huh... who needs luck!?!?)
Anyways, we found some friends from the ward who
were less than a 5 min drive away who never lost power
and asked if we could crash their pool!
(IT WAS SOOO STINKING HOT!!!)
We swam in their pool and cooled down our body temperatures
then headed back to hang out in the leasing office
until we went to get something to eat
and then back to the apartment for the night.
We charged our electronics at the leasing office
so we went back and put a movie on the laptop
for the boys and hunkered down for the long HOT night!
We got up several times through out the night
and took cold showers to try and cool ourselves
off enough to be able to relax and sleep!
(We even dunked the dogs a few time to try and keep them cool as well.)
The next day was Sunday
so we headed off to church to enjoy the air conditioning
and the spirit there. But we didn't sleep much the night before
so we headed back to try and get some sleep.
It was STILL SO hot and we normally don't go swimming
on Sundays but this was an exception!
Everything was up and running so we could finally
use our own pool!!
It was SOOO nice to get in and cool off!!
Our power came on later that day
and we have never been so grateful for air conditioning!
It truly was MISERABLE but
we are grateful we had shelter and each other.
The boys did great but every time
there is a storm now they both get worried
that we are going to lose power again.
