Memorial Day Vacation

WARNING:
PICTURE OVERLOAD!!
We were off on another family Vacation!!
We drove down to visit Wifey's eldest brother and his girlfriend in Virginia!
Before we traveled up to D.C. for Wifey's baby brother J's big day!
This time we made sure we had enough time to go exploring the caverns
which we have wanted to do EVERY other time we went down to visit them!

Inside the Natural Bridge Caverns!

Zooooom OUT!

Stalagmites and Stalactites inside the caverns!.

This little guy did GREAT!
Other kids all around were crying and screaming and scared but not him!

See!!
No problems here!!

Mommy and Daddy in the caves!

This guy on the other hand was a bit nervous!
He spent a lot of his time with his Uncle J!

Come on guys!
Let's go see what is over here!

Going down farther in the caves!

Climbing up, up, up to a different part of the caves.
(Wifey did a pretty good job capturing everyone:
Hubby, Baby, J, K, Bubby, and Ganma!)

It's COLD in here!!
(We think that is why he was nervous and did not want to get down! He was cold!)
After he warmed up a little bit from moving around he was fine!

See!!
Off they gooo!!
Catching up to Uncle J and K!!

Precious moments and memories made with Ganma!

Then it was off to the Butterfly Museum!!!
One landed on daddy!!
(It was not the prettiest one but it sure liked him!
It stayed on him throughout the whole tour!)

Pretty butterfly!

This one is Wifey and Ganma's favorite!

Some were HUGE!!
This is to show you how BIG they were!!
This one is almost as big as Hubby's hand!

Then it was time to go see the Natural Bridge!!
Walking DOWN lots of stairs!!

To the Natural Bridge!!
George Washington found this bridge as a young teenager!
And... it is still there!

Standing under the Natural Bridge!

The Boys!!
You can see on that side of the bridge a GW carved in the side of it!

The had other attractions like these huts that were made to look like the period.
They also had more leading up to some waterfalls but it was
BLAZING HOT
that day and we needed to travel on so we didn't walk all the way!

Playing with the some pieces that are from that period of time!

Then we road the bus back up to the visitors center!
(It was hot remember!
We were NOT going to climb all those stairs back up when we could ride a BUS!)
Across from the visitors center is a Wax Museum!
And you bet ya it was AIR CONDITIONED!
Hello there Mr. Former President Bush

And Former Mr. President Lincoln!

We hung out at the visitors center looking for souvenirs!

We certainly hope the boys will not be so willing to walk up to a BEAR that big in the WILD!

Then we stopped off at Stonehenge in the Foam!
Yes, you are reading that right!

Here G is picking at it!!
(Yes, we stopped him soon after this was taken!)

This will have to do until we make a trip to the REAL Stonehenge!
That is on our list of travels in the future!

No surprise here!!
They all took a nap!
Ganma and Wifey are often travel buddies on our vacations due to this!
(This was not the first nap nor was it the last!)

Next stop on our Vacation was Fort Frederick!

RUUUNN!!
"The REDCOATS are coming!"
Ha!
Not really!

They are just burning their energy inside the Fort!

Come ON Baby!!
Lets go play some more!

Cheese!!

They are so cute!
(Don't mind the sign in the previous picture that states "Please Keep off the Wall"!)

Outside Fort Frederick!
Ganma really wanted to take the boys there because
Wifey had been there when she was young!
This was SUPPOSED to be the meeting up point for the rest of the family
BUT Ganpa was just cruising from Ohio to get to D.C. he BLEW right past it!
So we met up later at our hotel!

Getting some snacks to COOL off!!

The boys did AMAZING!!
Traveling that day!!
(The whole trip!)
It was BLAZING HOT
(oh did we mention that already!?!)
Yeah it was really hot and we were in a car with NO AC!
WE KNOW!!
We didn't know nor did we ever DREAM it was going to be THAT hot!
(And get hotter!)
But we survived!
We got to the hotel and met up with the rest of the family!
We swam, ate and played games!

He we all are!!
What?
Is something missing?
Do you even know where we are?
Or what the big day/deal is?
(Yeah, thanks to a missionary from Canada they completely cut out the important place!)
(It must not be that big of a deal for him......?)
The Washington D.C. temple!!
(luckily Ganma's missionary was from Utah and got a picture with the temple in it!)

Our boys in such a sacred place!

Our family!
That day will forever be memorable!
For more than just J's beautiful day.
We all split off into different cars to go.
J had to be there early for his important day so Ganma and Ganpa took him in the first car.
We were in the second car with Wifey's brother A.
Grumpy (J's g/f at the time), J, K, Baby and Bubby were in the third car much later!
They didn't need to be there so early so they hung around and took their time at the hotel!
Back to our car/ the second car:
We got SOOOO unbelievably LOST!!!
Yes, we used our SMART phones and
used a well known MAP Co./ internet GIANT for directions!
YEAH!!
NOT COOL!
nor is it the first time it took us to the WRONG place but anyways!
We thought we were going to miss everything!!
His appointment was at 10:00 and everyone who is a Mormon (which we are!)
know you need to be there early to reverently do what you need to do.
Yeah.....
We showed up RUNNING from the visitors parking lot
(because we turned into the WRONG parking lot)
RUNNING through the temples parking lot to get there ASAP!
Showing up all out of breath and sweaty (hot.. remember?)
Luckily Wifey saw Ganma in there and Ganma was able to have them push us back to a different appt. time!
This was all on Memorial Day which was a Monday which again if you are a Mormon you know
the temples (but a select few) are not open on Mondays!
So they only had a few select times for this Memorial day!
We made it just in time!
It was beautiful and Elder J is now serving his mission in Manchester, New Hampshire!

After that it was off to the mall to cool off and eat!
Waiting for our reservations we rode the mall train!!

CHOO! CHOO!!

The boys did awesome overall!!
We drove home after eating and it was certainly a memorable vacation!
This post could have been split up into several posts but we are
making memories now that need to be recorded!
So we squished it all together to catch up a bit faster!
(Sorry for the mental overload!)
